Trend Alert: Bold Colour for 2014

Colour is back on all levels, from crazy catwalk creations to big bold fabric prints for the home. And although it may be wintry outside, our thoughts are turning to Spring decor.

In Spring, there is plenty of room for vivid, bright colours. Bold accents become eye candy when placed in front of cool neutrals like cream and grey. For example, a bright yellow chair will really pop in front of a charcoal wall. A bold red rug will instantly warm a light, beige or cream coloured room. Pink accent pillows against a grey sofa or an orange throw draped over a mahogany chair really stand out, or combine pink and orange together to create a colourblock effect. And a green wallpaper complemented by yellow accessories will create an eye-catching contrast.

If you are a little colour-phobic, you can neutralise bright colours with natural and organic tones. Or add one bold floral piece to a neutral room. It will create a much softer palette with a more timeless feel.

“Yellow is the trending leader for 2014, but it can be quite tricky to use in the home. To make it centre stage, pair it with grey or taupe for the perfect balance. Pink is another trend that will flourish in interior design next year, as an accent in bedrooms, the modern girl's living room or even in the kitchen, from cabinetry to lighting.” Mike Constable, MD of JAB International Furnishings
